I won’t lie,
I am currently under the Melbourne sky,
I used to live in a Kenyan state of high,
Rules be damned and now you wonder why,
I am often on guard ,
Even when the streets are no longer hard,
Missing the hum drum beat of a home bound heart,
Despite the awe and adoration of these concrete streets,
One craves a little home dust on the soles of their feet,
The kind that tells the story of your daily hustle,
On the streets of Nairobi, wading through the bustle.
Ah, when you’re accustomed to the dark,
You distrust the clean slate on which your new life starts,
Because within the dark you achieved adaptation,
And through it there came the creation of a nation,
Strong and able to withstand,
Tough beyond measure, its people building it by hand,
I embrace and adore the yin and yang
I will soon be called, ‘The Lady Of Two Lands’.
